让名词“动”起来

在汉语中，大部分情况下，词性是非常“泾渭分明”的。一个名词，不太可能被用作动词。可是在英文中，名词却经常会变身为动词，也就是我说的“名词动起来”，而且往往会有“化腐朽为神奇”的效果！

比如， 在《哈利波特与魔法石》(Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone)中, 有这么一句话，“fear flooded him”. 这是作者描写 Mr. Dursley 的一句话。故事中，德思礼先生听到路边穿着斗篷的人们正在路边热烈地讨论“Harry”，他知道自己这些年最担心的事儿就要发生了。当时他就吓得呆住了。如果是你的话，你会怎么写 Mr. dursley 的这种恐惧呢？你是不是会说，he was very afraid？“Fear flooded him.” 而罗琳通过将一个简单的名词，flood，用作动词，fear flooded him，顿时恐惧，这样一种抽象的情绪有了生动的画面，这是一种如洪水般的恐惧，将 Mr. Dursley 从头到脚淹没。是不是比 He was very afraid 厉害百倍！

下面，我们罗列一些既可以作名词又可以作动词的单词。同学们可以再想一想，我们还学过哪些类似的单词呢？

单词解析：

名词作动词的用法，没有哪本教科书会专门教这个点。因此这种好词都需要在大量阅读中进行刻意的积累。下面，我们再举几个实例。

1. book：名词，书本；当动词用，是指预订飞机座位、机票、旅馆房间等。此外还指警方将……登记如册以为指控之用(to press charge against someone, generally by the police)

Mr. Chen has booked(或made)a reservation at a hotel. 陈先生已经预订了旅馆房间。

Yesterday he booked a flight to Taiwan. 昨天他订购了到台湾的机票。

The police booked him for drunken driving. 他被指控酒后驾车。

2. house：名词，房屋；当动词用，是指供给住所(to provide shelter)

The farmer has housed the horse in the barn. 农夫把他的马圈在马厩里。

I would be glad to house you for the weekend. 我很高兴这个周末你能够住在我这里。

哈哈， 看起来很普通的“小词”是不是用法很多样呢？ 这个就是“名词动起来”的力量。它可以借助名词的“意思”, 让自己“动词”的用法更有画面感，更传神，让静止的文字突然就“动起来”了。所以遇到这种“小词”，要果断记在自己的小本本上，然后用到自己的口语写作中。
