5 BASKETBALL EXAMPLE A1. Passes the ball forward,
1 mark at foundation level (candidate identifies a skill, but no description), 0 marks at general or credit level (candidate not awarded marks for generic answers) A2. Chest passes the ball, 2 Marks at foundation level (candidate identifies a skill specific to the activity), 1 mark general level (candidate identifies a skill specific to the activity, but no description), 0 marks credit level, (candidate not awarded marks for the identification of a skill only).

8 Front tuck somersault In activities where the name of a skill contains “descriptive” words Credit level candidates should be rewarded in full for naming a skill if the skill contains two descriptive terms, eg Forward Tuck Sommersault 2 Marks 1 mark for forward 1 mark for tuck 0 mark for sommersault (this is an identification of what is being desribed) Where there is repetition, marks should only be awarded for one correct answer, eg Forward sommersault 1 mark Tuck sommersault 1 mark

9 DIVING EXAMPLE In activities such as DIVING, the technical name for a skill/technique often contains descriptive words, eg “front sommersault”. Credit candidates should not be penalised if the identification of a skill contains descriptive words, eg (i) Sommersault 0 marks (ii) Front sommersault 1 mark (iii) Tuck front s/sault 2 marks (iv) Tuck s/sault bent knees 1 mark (v) T s/sault wi knees together 2 marks In example (iii) “tuck” and “knees bent”/”knees to chest” are the same and marks cannot be awarded twice for repetition In example (v) knees can be apart or together in a “tuck” therefore candidate has supplied two pieces of information. PIKE: Legs straight, knees together in a tuck/tight held position. As opposed to below: TUCK, knees together, rotating forward. TASK : DESCRIBE THIS ACTION

10 General Basketball Example
Shooting: Basketball Shoots 0 marks Shoots with right hand 1 mark Shoots with right hand from close to the basket 2 marks Where no marks are awarded, the candidate fails to describe a specific action or skill. For 1 mark the candidate has offered one qualification to a generic response. For 2 marks the candidate has offered two qualifications to a generic response.

13 Describing a single skill
Sometimes a question will be asking you to describe a single skill and often will be asked in terms of: Preparation Action Recovery Here you may wish to talk about body part and shape or direction and speed. TASK: DESCRIBE THIS ACTION using only DIRECTION AND SPEED

14 Serial skills A single skill may have many parts to it The question may ask for long jump, high jump or gymnastics something like : Run-up Take-off/flight Landing OR a diving question may ask : Starting position Diving action Entry point / surface position Describe the jump in three parts this time using body parts and shape

15 SERIES OF SKILLS SOMETIMES THE QUESTION ASKS YOU TO DESCRIBE A PLAYER CARRYING OUT A SERIES OF SKILLS AND ACTIONS EG. A SPIKER PLAYING A DIG TO SETTER THEN RUNNING IN TO SPIKE

16 Rules for suggesting improvements
MUST ANSWER IN THE POSITIVE EG.1. SHE MUST ARCH HER BACK MORE 2.HE MUST STRAIGHTEN HIS HITTING ARM NOT SHE WASN’T ARCHING HER BACK HE DIDN’T STRAIGHTEN HIS ARMS WRONG!!!!
