Virginia Woolf (1882–1941), an English writer, is considered one of the most important modernist authors of all time. Her novels, including Jacob’s Room, Mrs. Dalloway, and The Waves, revolutionized how we in the modern age tell the stories of our lives. In visionary essays, letters, and diaries, Woolf insisted on a woman’s—and ultimately everyone’s—right to define themselves on their own terms.
