Maybe the cover doesn't really do the film justice, but we all know that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, so why is it so overlooked?

It's rare to find - possible then that if they re-released it with a better cover the distributor would be pleasantly surprised by the results. Either way, you wont get copies in your every day shops, but it really is worth tracking down.

It is, at its heart, a Midnight Run role-reversal (although it came out before). Keifer Sutherland is the by-the-book FBI agent escorting Dennis Hoppers former hippy-radical to trial. So you have a calmer Jack Bauer transporting a hyped-up Billy from Easy Rider.

The humour between the characters is well-judged, although it is consistently amusing/funny, like Midnight Run, it isn't a film that's based around laughout loud moments.

Some critics might highlight one joke by the river as being quite dated or not latch onto some of the plot twists, but the acting is excellent, the characters are given room to take root, and it doesn't try to batter you into submission as a number of more recent action/comedy films have done.

Another point to note is that I would be interested to know the budget for the soundtrack because it really uses it well, taking some of the classic songs of the 60s to embellish the story and reinforce Dennis Hopper's character.

With some excellent dialogue, most notably from a very well used Dennis Hopper, and some genuinely moving moments, this was a film I enjoyed as a teenager and revisited with pleasing results. Give it a go and there's plenty there for fans of buddy-comedy films/keifer Sutherland/Dennis Hopper/60s music.

Kiefer Sutherland fand ich genial seit ich ihn als blutjungen Schauspieler in "Fesseln des Schweigens" gesehen hatte (ein begnadeter, unglaublich talentierter Schauspieler!), aber vor "Flashback" wußte ich nicht, wie komisch er sein kann ...

"Flashback" ist seit seinem Erscheinen 1990 mein zweitliebster Lieblingsfilm (überholt nur von Happy Accidents mit Vincent D'Onofrio - sorry, Kiefer!) - einfach wunderwunderschön und noch dazu ironisch, intelligent und urkomisch, gekrönt durch brilliante Landschaftsaufnahmen, tolles Hippie-Ambiente (in die "Hütte" würde ich sofort einziehen :-D) und einen 1.Sahne- Soundtrack. Kiefer Sutherland (noch mit Milchbubi-Gesicht) brilliert als gesetzestreuer FBI-Yuppie, den "Easy Rider" Dennis Hopper als Anarcho-Hippie völlig wuschig macht. Doch dann geschieht etwas Erstaunliches ... und hinterläßt beim Zuschauer eine Mischung aus wohliger Wärme und melancholischer Sehnsucht ...

Ich habe meinen Videoplayer noch, denn Flashback gibt's völlig unverständlicherweise auf DVD nicht in Deutsch!? Okay, die englische Version ist weit spaßiger als die Übersetzung (VHS), aber auch diese ist immer wieder überaus sehenswert und voller Wortwitz. Also - bitte, bitte - her mit einer deutschsprachigen DVD!!!
