Hi ,
Persistence vs Insistence
Do you know these two words? Great words to know.
But more importantly, know the DIFFERENCE.
Let’s start with INSISTENCE.
DEMANDING the best or DEMANDING that something happen. This can be good.
I insist that I be the best English coach possible. I study grammar and American culture ALL the time to do my job. I study phonetics and pronunciation methods ALL the time. Why? Because I insist that I be the best for my students.
Insistence CAN be a good thing.
Persistence.
Choosing a path to travel and CONTINUING on that path even though it becomes extremely difficult.
I want to take a BREAK! If I could have a month off of NO work and NO kids…wow! I could get so much done. So much organized. I could really have a chance to relax, too. Really. BUT…now is not the time. I need to work. I need to grow my business. I need to teach my boys by example. SO, I start my day early in the morning and finish around midnight. I have to. I will. I do…even when life is SHIT.
I think PERSISTENCE is much more important than INSISTENCE.
Let me explain in another way—really easily.
Persistence means: Finding the round peg to fit into the round hole.
Insistence means: Shaving the corners of a square peg to fit into the round hole.
Both are great. But I tend to STRIVE for the round pegs. They are always the best.
What about you?
When it comes to English, if you're intermediate or advanced and serious, I have the round pegs for you.
