Boat Drawing - Step By Step Guide With Pictures

A ship, or more precisely a sailing ship, embodies the dream of tranquility and luxury on the sea. For drawing such a ship you need a loose stroke, because although it is a clearly structured object, the soft and somewhat curved lines of a sailing ship are captivating.

With this tutorial you can draw a dreamlike ship step by step and set sails in your mind. Use the template for example for a beautiful drawing for a birthday or as a cool wall tattoo.

For this tutorial we recommend a pencil, an eraser, an eraser-proof drawing pencil and good crayons.

Step 1: The deck

Start your ship with a delicate and slightly curved line that will be the boundary for the deck. Please use the pencil for this first.

Step 2: The masts

Place two lines on the deck that will later be drawn out to form the sail masts. Make sure to leave a small gap to the first drawn deck line.

Step 3: The waterline

Use the pencil to sketch the water's edge and delimit the body of the sailboat. Make sure to leave an overhang at the bow. It will later form the jib boom, to which the front sail will be tensioned.

Step 4: The sails

Now create the sails with the pencil. The front sail runs directly to the tip of the jib boom.

Step 5: The upper deck and the control room

Sketch the upper deck and the windows of the wheelhouse, as well as the boom for attaching the rear sail.

Step 6: First permanent contours

Now draw the ship with the pencil and add the first details. Make sure that the front sail billows in the wind so that the ship is visibly in motion.
