Windsor Castle (温莎城堡) is one of the most famous castles in the world. It was built just outside of London to protect the capital of Britain.

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied (在使用的) castle in the world. It has a long and rich history. For almost 1,000 years, the castle has been used as the family home of British kings and queens. It was also used as a prison during the English Civil War (英国内战).

Today, Windsor Castle is the private home of Queen Elizabeth II. She spends most of her private weekends there.

Although it is still a living place of the royal family, much of the castle is now open to the public. It is one of Britain’s top tourist attractions. It's a good idea to check on the official website before you head to Windsor Castle - sometimes parts of the castle are closed for official royal business. When the Queen is in residence, you can see the Changing of the Guard (as at Buckingham Palace（白金汉宫）when she is there). Windsor is located less than an hour from London Waterloo (direct) or Paddington (one change) by train. From the station, the castle is an easy walk. Buses go to Windsor from Victoria.
