Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a senior Finance professional who has a genuine interest in and curiosity about the Asset and Wealth Management business. The successful candidate will be dynamic, independent and a team-player and able to multi-task effectively and to lead the China Finance team locally. He/ she should be strong in communications to liaise on all Finance-related matters with APAC and Group Finance and with senior stakeholders across the region and with London Head Office, and with our partners in BoCom FMC JV and WMC JV.

The Finance Team

Schroders regional Finance hub for our Asia business is based in Singapore with Finance professionals in the Asia Pacific locations, where relevant. For China, we have a local team of several Finance professionals in addition to some operational tasks being outsourced to a 3rd party accounting firm with offices in Shanghai and Beijing. Our BoCom FMC and WMC JVs have their dedicated Finance teams where you will maintain regular contact to share best practices and achieve a good understanding and analysis of our JV business and financials.

What you’ll do

The role will be part of the China management team and will be responsible for all financial management matters in China reporting functionally to the Asia Head of Finance and Corporate Development based in Singapore and locally to China Chief Administrative Officer.

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

Senior Finance representation in the China management team to provide sound financial support in the formulation of business strategy which includes budgeting, financial forecasting, cashflow and capital requirements management. Be the go-to person for all China finance related matters, including finance matters for our JV businesses in China.

Country responsibility to supervise the Finance team and outsourced accounting firm for monthly financial, regulatory and management reporting for all Schroders entities and businesses in China

Review and analysis of monthly Financial reports

Submission of financials to Group in accordance with group policy and IFRS

Prepare, review and ensure any regulatory reporting and other submission required by local authorities or regulators are filed timely

Group reporting in the monthly, quarterly, interim and year end disclosures to Group

Tax and Treasury:

Manage the banking relationships, in conjunction with Group Treasurer and APAC Finance

Manage and oversee the cashflow, ensuring appropriate treasury and cash controls

Manage and oversee the regulatory and working capital levels and coordinate the approvals for additional capital when anticipated

Manage external tax consultants and service providers to see to the timely and accurate filing of the relevant tax returns and reports

Finance Operations: Working closely with outsourced service provider and the local Finance team in the areas for accounts payable, accounts receivable, fee billing, balance sheet reconciliations, where relevant. Where activities are outsourced, manage the service level of outsourced service providers and review their deliverables.

Others.

Oversee and manage and the implementation of Group projects and policies

Ensure good control environment and robust reporting processes

Build and maintain a strong Finance team on the ground in China

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

Over 10 years’ professional finance experience, including in a senior financial managerial position

Experience in Big 4 accounting firms and financial institutions, asset management experience preferred;

Experience in interacting with senior management and in leading a team of Finance professionals

Strong analytical and sound decision-making skills based on accurate and timely analyses;

Qualified Accountant with Degree in Accountancy or equivalent;

Highly proficient in MS Office suite, particularly Excel and powerpoint.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help

Experience in the use of corporate accounting system (eg Oracle, Yongyou, Kingdee)

Ability to collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and financial analyses

Effective time management and ability to manage work pressure well

Project management experience

What you’ll be like

Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiently bilingual;

Able to work independently as well as in a team and on multiple deliverables concurrently;

Able to lead by example and demonstrate a strong sense of integrity, ethics and teamwork

Confident to present results to senior management and stakeholders

Most recently, Schroders is establishing a wealth management JV with BoCom which is awaiting CBIRC approval for business commencement, and applied with CRSC to establish a FMC WFOE business in Shanghai.
