2) Short-Tail Keywords: These are broad phrases. Thus, they are vague or less specific terms, constituting of one or two words only. These keywords are searched more often; however they also have more bids on them for online advertising. These keywords are rather high-ranking. These are mostly searched by audience at the start of the marketing funnel i.e. those who are doing the initial search. Example may include ‘Shoes’

3) Long-Tail Keywords: These are very specific and less vague as compared to Short and Mid Tail keywords. There are comparatively less searches too. Audience with very high buying intent are searching them. Thus, the conversion rate for these words is high. They belong towards the end of the marketing funnel. With the specificity, they mostly focus on a single niche. Example may include ‘Buy Adidas Black Sneakers.

4) Mid-Tail Keywords: These keywords are a balance between long and short-tail keywords. Therefore, the searches for such keywords are more than long-tail conversions are less. They belong to the middle stage of marketing funnel. Example may include ‘Buy Adidas Shoes’.

5) Long-Term Evergreen Keywords: Evergreen content is that which is always relevant, irrespective of time. Thus, these keywords are those which are rather long, and even though may not be searched very often, the search for them continues throughout many years. Example my include ‘Apple pie recipe’

6) Short-Term Fresh Keywords: As opposed to evergreen keywords, these keywords are time bound and are relevant for a short period of time. These keywords get high traffic and conversions, however for a limited period of time. Example may include ‘N 95 face mask’.

7) Customer and Geo Targeting Keywords: These keywords are those which target a specific audience and/or location. As a business, if you know who your customers are, or the location and audience you are going to target, SEO becomes easy. Example may include ‘Adventure seekers’, ‘Software Developers’ , ‘ SEO Company In Bangalore’, etc.

8) Exact Match Keywords: Rather than using these Keywords for SEO Project, these are more used by business for paid advertisements. Using these keywords, they wish to target audience who search for exact those keywords. While this limits the searches, there are higher chances of conversions.

9) Phrase Match Keywords: Similar to Exact Match keywords, these are used for paid advertisements. Here variation in search is accounted such as synonyms, implied terms; and even misspelled keywords. These keywords increase your traffic.

10) Negative Match Keywords: These are the keywords, which when searched, you don’t want your paid advertisement to appear. Thus, you don’t want your ad to be associated with these keywords. For example, if you are advertising for sale of a product. ‘Free’ may be a negative match keyword you use.

Step 1: Prepare list of keywords: The first and foremost step in choosing the right keywords will be getting some insights. So, you need to brainstorm and think of all the keywords which according to you are relevant to your business, make a list of it. Think of all the synonyms. Take the help of the types of keywords mentioned above and accordingly add in keywords. You can even simply type the keywords you think are relevant within Google’s search box, and note down the similar suggestions by Google.

Step 2: Use Keyword research tools: There are various Keywords Research Tools available today – some free and some paid. You can utilize these tools to research keywords. These tools find for you relevant keywords, synonymous keywords, currently trending keywords, variations and regional variations in keywords, auto-complete suggestions for long-tail keywords, competitor keywords, etc. Not only that, you can even get insights into keyword related statistics such as the competition, the number of searches, number of clicks, etc.

Step 3: Sort out and Segment the Keywords: Now that you have a list of keywords, sort them out according to their relevance, their intent, their search volume, etc.  Make different segments and distribute the keywords into relevant separate segments.
